Day 1: The moment of conception

Two hundred million sperm from dad race to meet one egg from mom. One sperm will succeed in uniting with the egg to create you! Dad and mom each contribute 23 chromosomes which give you 46 chromosomes that determine your traits: boy or girl, tall or short, slow, fast, hair color, eye color, dimples, interest in math or writing, cars or sports or art. You could not have been anyone or anything else! You were you from the moment of conception! You are now in the "zygote" stage of life.

First few days

Your cells begin to divide very fast. If you continued to grow at this rate, you'd be as big as the sun by adulthood! Your body releases a hormone that will indicate to your mother that she is pregnant with you! You are on your way down the fallopian tube into the womb where you will implant.

Day 6-12

You take 7-10 days to implant in the wall of your mother's womb after arriving there. Hormones you release will suppress your mother's menstrual period for the next 9 months. You will begin to form your placenta which will feed you and give you oxygen as you grow and approach the day of your birth.

Day 15

Around this time, your mother will miss her menstrual period and will begin to suspect that she is pregnant with you! You are now in the embryonic stage of your life.

Day 25

You've been alive for less than one month, and already your blood is pumping through tiny arteries and veins and your heart begins to form. By day 21, your heart is beating. The beginning cells of the liver form in anticipation of the digestive system. By day 20, the foundation for your brain, spinal cord and nervous system have been laid.

Day 35 / 5 weeks

Your brain and neck have been developing and growing rapidly. Inside your neck, your esophagus and trachea form. Tiny lungs form under the esophagus. Little buds are first visible as the beginnings of your arms and legs. Do you look like you did in your baby photos? No! But, you're still growing and have great potential for success throughout your life!

Day 45

Your face and jaw line are beginning to develop followed by facial muscles. Your heart is now split into 4 chambers and continues to grow. Your small intestines begin to develop outside of your body, and as you grow and make room for them, they will shift inside. Your spine becomes straighter as your limbs lengthen. You can see your fingers and toes delicately take shape. Your kidneys produce urine for the first time.

Day 55 / 6 weeks

Your brain activity can already be detected. Meanwhile, your bones are developing rapidly as muscles grow around them. Joints develop to connect bones and allow them to move. Little toe nails appear. Your eyes and tongue are well developed. Your eyes are still on the side of your head, and eyelids have not yet formed. You begin to make spontaneous movements.

7 weeks

Your head is upright now, and your outer ear is fully developed. Your taste buds form, and your teeth are also in early development. Your intestines begin to move into your body. Your fingers and toes are no longer webbed, but distinct from one another. Your skin is getting thicker.

8 weeks

Your eyes are shut now, and will remain so for a few months as your eyes develop. Your skin is sensitive to touch, and you develop reflex reactions. Your fingernails are beginning to form. Although you cannot be heard, your vocal cords are developed and you can make sounds! You face now looks very similar to a newborn's. You are about the size of your thumb now. You are passing the embryonic stage into the fetal stage.

12 weeks / 3 months

You fingerprints are developing now- the same fingerprints that you see today on your fingers! Fine hair is growing on your face. Sadly, this is the time when most abortions are taking place. A baby can feel. Make sounds, and are sensitive to pain. We will not show you these images here, but you can visit other websites to see the sad pictures of an aborted baby. The type of abortion performed at this stage in your life is called "suction curettage" abortion.

Four months

Your facial expressions may resemble your parents' at this time. You begin kicking and moving, gaining strength and continue to grow and develop, however you are still very tiny, and your mom can't feel you yet! You are now about 5 inches long. There has been a surge of nerve production, and you can now feel pain. You have a firm grip and like to suck your thumb.

Five months

It is now possible to detect your gender from an ultrasound. Mom can now feel you moving about within her womb. You now have patterns of sleeping and waking. You have a head of hair, however it will most likely fall out soon after you are born. You are starting to gain a lot of weight which will help you as you descend the birth canal.

Six months

Very soon, you will be able to hear as your inner ear becomes fully developed. You are now going through a period of very rapid brain growth that will last for the next 5 years. Your arms and legs finally look proportional to your body, continuing to grow in length. All of your bones, muscles and organs continue to grow steadily. Babies aborted at this age are destroyed through Dilatation and Evacuation abortion or D&E.

Seven months

You are now about 9 inches long and weigh about 2 pounds. You can be born at this time and survive in an intensive care unit. You reopen your eyes at this time and your eyelashes develop. You now have a regular heartbeat and regular breathing. You continue to develop red blood cells with the help of bone marrow. You are continuing to produce fat as you gain weight.

Eight months

You are now 4 pounds and almost 12 inches long. You are so big that your legs and arms are curled up close to your sides, this is known as the fetal position. The eyes of most babies are blue, and will only change color after meeting light when you are born. The hair on your head becomes thicker and your immune system develops. This is one reason why babies can be sick when born prematurely. The immune system keeps you safe from dangerous things in the environment.

Nine months

You have more bones now than later in life because they will fuse together as you grow. You practice breathing and eating by swallowing the amniotic fluid. Your bones continue to harden. By the time you are born, you will be almost 15% body fat. The only thing different about you and a newborn was that you had not made the trip yet and you have no rights.

Sadly, abortion is still legal at this time. In the last 3 months of unborn life, babies are killed through the partial-birth abortion procedure whereby the baby is delivered half-way and then killed through a stab to the back of the neck which removes the baby's brain.

Newborn

Welcome! It's your birthday! Your parents, siblings and family are so happy to see you! In just over 280 days, you have grown from a single cell into a full-term newborn baby! Today is not the first day of your life, but the first day that the world gets to see you face-to-face. You are a wondrous work of God's love!
