NEW YEAR - SAME MISSION
WE ARE BUILDING A CULTURE OF LIFE
Our mission remains critical as ever. The enemy is crafty at inventing new ways to draw young men and women from the path of virtue. However, for many young people, the devil is no longer cool. By God’s grace and the benefit of time’s passage, they have had the opportunity to survey the broken lives and relationships left in the Sexual Revolution’s wake. And they are increasingly no longer buying what the “old serpent” is selling.
This presents us with a beautiful opportunity; the opportunity to affirm that they are right to reject the vapid grossness being pushed upon them by our society, to affirm that in this conviction they are not alone. The challenge remains encouraging them to not only reject what is evil but also to embrace what is good. And we do that by not just dishing out “thou shalt nots,” but also a lot of “thou shalts.” To help students see the truth, beauty, and goodness behind the letter of the law. And that a life of sexual integrity is the only one worth living.
Generation Life excels at doing that.
This is nowhere more apparent than at our Beach Outreach which takes place every year at the Jersey Shore in early June. However, this was beyond the comprehension of the reporter who wrote about this year’s Beach Outreach in Britain’s newspaper of record, The Guardian. Portraying chastity to be a frigid lifestyle for neurotic, sexually averse, Christian squares, she presumptuously concluded from her single day of shadowing our team that we had failed in our mission to make converts for chastity. Except her hit piece came preloaded with a repulsive definition of chastity that did not remotely resemble the one we were sharing on the beaches and boardwalks. Happily, her lies and half-truths did not escape the comments section unscathed. She was soundly “ratioed” in the comments, as the cool kids say. One top commenter on the article remarked that he had no idea any one was talking about authentic love and chastity at the beach, and he was so happy to learn that we were out there. His comment had hundreds of likes. And there were thousands from all over the world making similar comments. So, to The Guardian we have nothing to say but this: Thanks for the publicity.
For Generation Life, Beach Outreach really is the cherry on top of a successful school year. We look forward to it every year, the camaraderie, the conversations, and of course the beach. It really serves to illustrate, in a beautiful way, what Generation Life is all about, the hope inherent in our message to young people about chastity and pro-life. Out on the beach, we get to talk to young people from all walks of life and have wildly different conversations. We talk to a boyfriend and girlfriend. We find ourselves affirming a healthy relationship and give them the language of chastity to help them understand what it is that makes their relationship healthy. Sometimes, you find that honest guy who has a one-night stand planned for that evening. As you talk to him about true love, you can watch his conflicting desires for base pleasure and sexual integrity play out in his face. And regardless of how the conversation turns out, each person gets that “I’m worth waiting for” sticker. Because, no matter what, that’s the baseline truth.
Next year, Beach Outreach is going to be especially exciting, because it is the official relaunch of the Generation Life missionary program. In recent years, our administrative staff has also served as our speaking team. The organization has been blessed with some pretty incredible team members who have been able to make this work. However, our reach has not been what it could be. With the return of the missionary program, we will have a dedicated team of missionary presenters to be able to take the message of life and love into every classroom that will have us in Philadelphia and beyond.
This year is a transitional year, and it has already proven to be immensely fruitful. We are hard at work developing the missionary program and recruiting missionaries. To that end, we are going on a tour of Catholic colleges in the Mid-Atlantic to recruit seniors for the program. Kicking off the tour, we visited Christendom College about two weeks ago. We were told by their staff that, so far this year, other employers have only been able to get 17 students to show up for an evening presentation. We had 40 students attend our talk! We will have a booth at SEEK in January in Columbus, Ohio and already have plans in the works to visit Villanova and Franciscan University of Steubenville.
While all this planning is going on, our regular activity of giving pro-life and chastity presentations in schools and churches continues apace. We are especially prioritizing getting into Philadelphia area high schools, including many that we have not visited in a while, if ever. This school year will also feature two weeklong trips to New York, including the Diocese of Syracuse and the Archdiocese of New York. We visited Syracuse in October and plan to be in New York City the first week of February. Finally, on the programming side of things, our Allentown Pilot Program, a more in-depth implementation of our standard curriculum for several schools in the Diocese of Allentown, is back this year and being deftly handled by our colleague Marlayna.
To support our anticipated growth, there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes. Our website was recently given a facelift by Chiara. As the missionary program gets underway next year, you can expect to see a lot more activity on our social media platforms. If you don’t already, give us a follow on Facebook, Instagram, or Tiktok. I am sure many of you have heard from Jon, our director of development, to keep you abreast of everything we have going on. The biggest news he may not have told you is that he and his beautiful wife Caitlyn are expecting a baby girl next week! So, keep them in your prayers.
To close, I am very excited about what the Lord has in store for Generation Life as we move into 2026. I hope you are too. Without your partnership with us, none of this would be possible. Thank you for your continued support. Merry Christmas!
